Conference

The Sustainability in a Scandinavian Context Conference 2015 held in partnership with the Bentley Global Business Ethics Symposium is being hosted at the Copenhagen Business School and will take place during 8-9 June 2015. This conference is intended for scholars and practitioners with the intent to bring academics and practitioners together to consider sustainability in a Scandinavian context and the development a research paradigm dedicated to exploring sustainability in a Scandinavian context – and to consider the potential implications for a broader global context.

Scandinavia represents a particularly promising context in which to consider sustainability and the associated issues.  Scandinavia is often recognized as a world leader in sustainability where Scandinavian companies are disproportionately well-represented in the major sustainability performance indicators including the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and the Scandinavian region as a whole has demonstrated remarkably strong and balanced country-level economic, environmental, societal, and economic performances.  Furthermore, the most commonly used definition of sustainability as  “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising future generations to meet its needs” has Scandinavian roots as it is drawn from the 1987 “Brundtland Report” in reference to the chair of the committee: former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlen Brundtland.

However, the challenges associated with sustainability continue to rise throughout the world, where this is no different in Scandinavia.  Thus despite these aforementioned references to comparatively strong sustainability performances found in Scandinavian, further examinations are merited to more critically explore sustainability in a Scandinavian context where looming challenges may be mounting.

The conference will commence at 8:30 on 8 June and will conclude at 18.30 on 9 June. The registration fee is DKK 1,580.- (approximately USD 250 / EUR 210), including all meals, receptions, and refreshments during the conference days.

The 2nd Sustainability in a Scandinavian Context Conference is held in partnership with the Bentley Global Business Ethics Symposium*. Please register for both events through the registration site.

* The program is held in memory of Timothy B. Harbert, Chairman and CEO of State Street Global Advisors and Trustee and Alumnus of Bentley College
