As you know, we have been closely monitoring the situation and the recent developments concerning the global COVID-19 outbreak. Given the fact that most countries are now experiencing travel bans and that the Danish authorities have banned all large events and social gatherings, we have decided to cancel SCOS 2020. Even though we hope that the COVID-19 outbreak is under control later this summer, we do not expect it to be possible – let alone responsible – to host any larger international events in Denmark at that time. This decision is based on our responsibility to protect the health of our participants as far as possible.
We know that other international conferences, such as EGOS, have decided to carry out a virtual conference. We have, however, decided not to do this, but to postpone SCOS Copenhagen to 2021. This decision is made based on the fact that SCOS doesn’t have a tradition for subthemes or standing working groups, but on people ‘shopping around’ from session to session. This would simply be too complex in a virtual setting and not something the organizing group – let alone Copenhagen Business School – has the skills, capacity or technology to do.
The next SCOS conference will, therefore, be on the theme of Difference in Copenhagen 4-7 July 2021. SCOS 2022 will be in Krakow and SCOS 2023 will be in Paris. We will re-circulate the call in the autumn and thus be open to accepting new papers. Those who have submitted and been accepted will also have the possibility of submitting the same paper next year – and are thus automatically accepted. We will get back with more (re)submission details later. For now, we will start by paying back the few of you who had already registered for this year’s conference.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions at all. We are very sorry about this decision, but don’t feel we have any other choice!
All the best,
Annette, Christian and Sara
